This is one installment in a series of giveaways I'm doing in celebration of the publication of A Christ-Centered Wedding.
If you were to ask me what part of the book I was most anxious about writing, I would immediately tell you it was the section on modesty. I have read enough viral blog posts about the topic, and the angry comments following those posts, to know it's an extremely touchy subject. Mom and I both felt it needed to be covered, but prayed for wisdom to know how to do it.
For this reason, I was so thankful to have this book as a resource. Modest: Men and Women Clothed in the Gospel by Tim Challies and R.W. Glenn was different than anything I had read on modesty. It avoids lists and inch-rules, and instead gets straight to the heart. In fact, Challies and Glenn guard against thinking of modesty only in terms of rules and standards, saying, "If we reduce modesty to certain rules of dress, we are completely separating the concept of modesty from the person and work of Jesus Christ. As a result, we may have the appearance of godliness, but not a whole lot more."
The small book is packed with truths like this, firmly planted in gospel-rich soil. I highly recommend it.
I'm so thankful to Cruciform Press for providing a copy of the book for the winner of this giveaway.
